Thoughts on the Film

These days more and more children grow up outside the traditional two-parent family structure. The way these children construct their lives in future, as adults, depends on their ability to deal with their experiences at this early age: with their fears of loss, their longing for security, their need for relationships and perspectives. Current studies indicate that contact with both parents is crucial if children are to learn appropriate social behavior, and that children between the ages of 4 and 12 find it particularly difficult to deal with their parents splitting up.

The story of little Karo is intended to focus attention, in imaginative and witty fashion, on the problems of children who do not grow up in two-parent families. While Karo doesn‘t succeed in getting her parents back together, she does learn to adjust to the changing situation and to make a new start. Thus our young heroine represents many children in similar situations; the story opens up new perspectives and encourages young viewers to find their own paths in life.
